An Interview with Steinway’s Chief Concert Technician
Here is an interview with Ron Coners, the Chief Concert Technician for Steinway & Sons. I wish I had found this interview earlier. It would have been a great post during the 13th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition this past May. Ron was the Chief Concert Technician during the Cliburn Competition and was responsible for the three Steinway concert performance pianos on stage. Nonetheless, this is a great interview and we hope you enjoy it.

Steinway pianos vs. other pianos in touch and tone
In 2001, I was struggling to practice and teach on an entry level baby grand. I had purchased a very inexpensive mass produced piano right out of a box (meaning no regulation, but I was ignorant). Soon after the piano got delivered, I was faced with stress from malfunctioning piano problems arising just from normal usage.

Steinway Hall Donates Signature Piano to Dallas Symphony Orchestra Gala
The 2009 Dallas Symphony Orchestra AT&T Gala will revisit the Meyerson’s 1989 Grand Opening Fortnight celebration with featured Gala artists Marvin Hamlisch and Johnny Mathis. As an homage to the past, Van Cliburn is recognized as this year’s Honorary Gala Artist and as a tribute to current day, Jaap van Zweden will lead the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in Beethoven’s Overture to Fidelio.
